This is typical folk architecture of our region. This street in Jilemnice (18 km from Lomnice) is called Zvedava ulicka (Curious Street). Most of the timbered houses here were built after the great fire in 1788. The houses have situated one window axle forward into the street in such a way that the inhabitants can easily see towards the square to the street - therefor name "curious". (www.jilemnice.cz)

Domy mají o jedno okno do ulice navíc, aby mohli sledovat dění - proto název "zvědavá".

Maybe it's not usual for windows to face the street where you are! Here more windows face the street than the back. They look unusual buildngs anyway; each with its own character.
OdpovědětVymazatSo it is maybe better: The houses have situated one window axle forward into the street in such a way that the inhabitants can easily see towards the square to the street.
